PCP dealer sentenced to nearly 20 years

A 31-year-old D.C. man was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for selling PCP in Northwest Washington.

U.S. District Court Judge Beryl A. Howell sentenced Dante Sheffield as a career offender based on his history of criminal arrests and convictions, prosecutors said. Sheffield has been prosecuted or convicted eight times.

D.C. police arrested Sheffield on June 8 after officers stopped a car in the 2300 block of 11th Street NW and recovered almost 200 grams of PCP hidden in a lemon juice bottle in the center console.

The street value of the PCP was worth more than $8,000 and could serve hundreds of users, prosector said.

Although two other people were in the car, Sheffield stated that everything in the vehicle was his, police said.

At the time of Sheffield, had been out of jail less than a month after spending a year behind bars for violating the terms of probation.
