Blaze that injured firefighter called suspicious
A firefighter was injured at a three-alarm fire at an apartment building in Prince George’s County early Wednesday morning, officials said. Firefighters were notified of the fire about 6:30 a.m., according to Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Services. When they arrived at 5621 Regency Park Court in Suitland, firefighters saw heavy smoke at the rear side of the building. Firefighters on the first arriving ladder truck rescued four family members from a top floor balcony. Ninety firefighters and medics came to the scene, and it took 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, officials said. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene. Fire officials said the blaze is considered suspicious and investigators are looking into whether a reported domestic dispute played a role in the blaze. Early estimates of damage were $250,000. Officials said 14 apartment units have been declared uninhabitable, and 31 residents were displaced.
Police ID victim in fatal shooting
Prince George’s County police have identified the victim in a fatal shooting in Capitol Heights as 19-year-old Darnell Vincent Furr Jr. Tuesday afternoon, police responded to the 5000 block of Emo Street and found Furr suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Furr, of Fort Washington, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
Woman stabbed in Gaithersburg
A woman was stabbed in Gaithersburg on Wednesday morning by a man who took off on a children’s bicycle, police said.
About 7:25 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of Gold Kettle Drive in Gaithersburg. The woman was stabbed in the stomach and was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Montgomery County police said. The victim described the assailant as a Hispanic man, about 37-years-old, who was wearing black pants and was on a red kid’s bike, police said.
