A former Bowie State University student charged with murdering her roommate told jurors Thursday that she acted in self-defense.

Alexis Simpson, 20, testified that she was fighting with her roommate, Dominique Frazier, the night of Sept. 15, 2011, and got out a pocket knife to protect herself, according to media reports. At one point she swung the knife wildly, Simpson testified, cutting Frazier.
