A middle-aged man is wanted by D.C. police for robbing five District banks since November, most recently hitting a Chevy Chase Bank in Northwest.
Police say the man has not shown a weapon in any of the robberies. Instead, he passes tellers a note demanding cash and implying that he is armed. In each case, the tellers have complied and the thief gets away with a bag of money.
He made his most recent appearance Thursday afternoon when he marched into a Chevy Chase Bank on the 1200 block of F Street Northwest. He was wearing a tan and white sweater, tan pants and carrying a laptop-style shoulder bag, police said.
The robber has carried that bag with him in each robbery, authorities said. He also typically wears a dark skullcap.
He is described as a black man who is about 6 feet tall and weighs around 150 pounds. The robber has a dark complexion, gray facial hair and wears glasses.
In four of the five robberies, he has targeted Chevy Chase banks. On March 12, he robbed a PNC bank in the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast. His first known robbery in the area was Nov. 23, when he robbed a Chevy Chase bank in the 300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast. The robber next appeared on Jan. 6, robbing a Chevy Chase bank in the 1200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest.
On March 8, he robbed a Chevy Chase Bank on the 600 block of F Street Northwest. It was just a few blocks from the bank he robbed Thursday.
District police have offered a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the man.
