Two former Metro workers who stole some $500,000 from Metro fare machines in less than two years have been sentenced to more than two years each in federal prison, plus they’ve been ordered to pay $472,679.
Former Metro Transit Police officer John Vincent Haile, 52, received a 37-month sentence, the equivalent of just more than three years, while former revenue technician Horace Dexter McDade, 58, of Bowie, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
The two were arrested in January and pleaded guilty in March. Authorities began investigating after the FBI received a tip in September about a man in a police uniform regularly driving a Jaguar to a Woodbridge gas station to buy scratch-off lottery tickets with $1 coins.
