A construction worker in Prince George’s County reported seeing a man dump another wounded man, now deceased, on the side of the Capital Beltway in the early morning hours Friday, according to police.
The man was identified by authorities as 44-year-old Tony Cornelius Best, of an unknown address.
Cpl. Clinton Copeland, public information officer for Prince George’s Police, said the construction worker first heard gunshots at about 1:40 a.m. as he worked on the Beltway.
“A few minutes later, he observed the suspect pulling right onto the shoulder of the roadway and unloading the body,” Copeland said.
Officials found Best on the Inner Loop at Route 210 in Oxon Hill.
The car — a four-door silver vehicle, likely either a Hyundai or Honda — apparently stopped moving just long enough for the suspect to dump the body onto the side of the road, he said.
Best was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he died Friday morning, officials said. He had been shot a number of times in the upper body, according to Cpl. Copeland.
The suspects had not been found by Friday afternoon, and officers did not know the exact license plate of the car used.
