The blotter – Elderly man attacked after shopping

A 30-year-old Alexandria man has been arrested, Fairfax County police said, accused of attacking an 84-year-old man who had been loading groceries into his car. According to authorities, the 84-year-old had just sat in down in the driver’s seat when Isaac Gray jumped in the back seat, grabbed him around the neck and demanded cash. When the elderly man bit the suspect, police say Gray punched him several times in the face and then ran off.

Teen pleads guilty to minor assault in gay man’s beating

A 19-year-old pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault for throwing a punch that resulted in a gay man’s death that sparked outrage in D.C.’s homosexual community. Robert Hannah punched Tony Hunter in the head, causing Hunter to fall backward. Hunter’s head hit the ground; it eventually killed him. Hannah claims he threw the punch after Hunter touched him inappropriately. Hannah faces up to 180 days in jail when he’s sentenced Oct. 14.

Masked home invaders with FBI hats assault man

A 28-year-old man was  attacked by several men who barged into his Annandale home, Fairfax County police said. It’s unclear whether anything was taken from house on the 3400 block of Charleson Street. The suspects were wearing black utility uniforms, masks and FBI hats. They fled in a tan Cadillac Escalade. Anyone with information should call 866-411-TIPS.

5 hospitalized after D.C. fire ruled arson   

District fire officials have ruled arson as the cause to an early Thursday morning fire in Northwest that sent five people to the hospital. When firefighters pulled up to the five-story 13th Street building, they found people preparing to jump. Instead, they were rescued. A firefighter, two children and two adults were hospitalized and are expected to recover.
