Man guilty of threatening MoCo officials A 49-year-old man was found guilty of threatening public officials in Montgomery County after he lost a child custody case.

Michael Moment sent threatening letters to State’s Attorney John McCarthy, Judge John Deblius and Judge Thomas Craven saying that “contracts” had been placed on their lives and their family’s lives if any harm came to Moment’s son, authorities said. He also sent threatening letters to the daughter of County Executive Ike Leggett.

He was prosecuted in Prince George’s County to avoid an any possible conflict of interest.

Woman found slain on steps of Old Post Office

D.C. police are trying to identify a woman who was found stabbed to death on the steps of the Old Post Office.

The woman was found around 6:30 a.m. Monday in the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue NW, suffering from apparent stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police: Va. man attacked mom with meat cleaver

A Virginia man is in custody after he assaulted his mother with a meat cleaver, fracturing her skull.

Joseph N. Yates, 25, of Henrico, was charged with aggravated malicious wounding in the Monday evening attack. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that he was ordered held without bond on Tuesday and ordered to undergo a competency evaluation.

Yates’ mother was talking on the phone when Yates struck her with the meat cleaver shortly before 11 p.m., according to the Times-Dispatch. He allegedly hit her in the head, causing multiple fractures. Her thumb was nearly severed when she raised her hand to try to defend herself.

The woman, who was not identified, is hospitalized in the stable condition, the newspaper reported.
