‘Preppy burglar’ pleads guilty, gets 18 months

The Silver Spring man dubbed the “preppy burglar” for breaking into homes wearing dress shirts and ties has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months in jail. Court records show 30-year-old Jeremy M. Hall pleaded guilty to theft and burglary charges earlier this month. He admitted to breaking into homes in Montgomery and Howard counties. The thefts gained attention after police distributed a video showing him burglarizing a home in a collared dress shirt and other professional attire.

In a letter to the court, Hall says he retrieved items that he stole and returned them to the victims. Hall also says he apologized in person to one of his victims.

Hall had been accused of taking electronics, guitars, jewelry and other items from the homes.
