P.G. man sentenced for role in drug-trafficking ring

A Prince George’s County man has been sentenced in D.C. federal court for his involvement in a local drug-trafficking ring.

Marcus Gurley, 31, of Glenn Dale, was sentenced to 5 years and 5 months in prison and five years of supervised release after pleading guilty in December to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine hydrocholoride and one count of a firearms charge, court records show.

Gurley was part of a drug conspiracy that operated in Prince George’s County and around 7th and O streets NW in the District, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

From January 2010 to August 2011, Gurley was involved in the conspiracy, During this time, he paid a distributor for cocaine and obtained and sold between 500 grams (17.6 ounces) and two kilograms (4.4 pounds) of a powder mixture containing cocaine, according to court papers.

Gurley isn’t the first person involved in the conspiracy to be sentenced. Joseph Young, 35, was sentenced to five years in prison on Feb. 24 for his role in the drug ring, officials said.

One of the leaders of the ring, 37-year-old Espey Brown, Jr., pleaded guilty to two federal charges in the case and is scheduled to be sentenced May 22, officials said.

Gurley pleaded guilty to his involvement in the ring in December, according to court records.
