Two guilty of woman’s murder
Two D.C. men were found guilty of first-degree murder in a 2008 shooting that killed a woman and wounded a man.
Prosecutors said Robert Walker and Rodney White, both 24, shot and killed Jasmine McCray, 23, during a fight at Benning Park Apartments in Southeast Washington after being thrown out of a Capitol Heights nightclub for a fight during the early morning of May 5, 2008.
White and Walker fired into a crowd at the apartments, striking McCray in the head and another man in the hand. McCray was then struck by a car driven by a person fleeing the gunfire.
Both men will be sentenced June 14.
D.C. police officer kills man
D.C. police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Southeast Washington.
The incident occurred about 3 a.m. Tuesday on the 2600 block of Sheridan Road.
An officer stopped 34-year-old Cleman Richerd Sweptson Jr., who was believed to be under the influence of narcotics and was acting erratic and agitated, D.C. police spokesman Officer Araz Alali said.
Sweptson pointed a handgun at the officer and fired it. The officer then fired back, striking the man multiple times.
Baby found in pond was full-term
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has released more details about the newborn girl whose body was found in a Sterling pond on Sunday morning.
A preliminary autopsy found that the baby was white or Hispanic, full-term and likely the product of a home birth. It is unclear whether the baby was stillborn or had survived the birth, authorities said.
The baby appeared to have been in the pond for no more than a couple of days.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office continue to look for the mother.
