Fugitive on the run for 5 years

U.S. marshals are asking for the public’s help in locating a 50-year-old D.C. man who has an extensive criminal history and has been evading authorities for years.

William Bennett Brown has three outstanding warrants in the District of Columbia. Bennett is wanted for parole violations of drug charges in 1992, escape from a halfway house charges in 1995 and cocaine distribution charges in 1996.

“This guy simply refuses to conform to the rules of society,” said Deputy Marshal Shane Clark. “He is a proven threat to the community and we need to get him off the streets. We are asking for the community’s assistance in bringing him in.”

Brown’s criminal history also includes arrests on charges of assault, burglary and fraud. He is described as 6 feet 2, 190 pounds and having black hair and brown eyes. In recent years, Brown has lived at different addresses in Northwest and Southeast Washington, as well as Oxon Hill.

Anyone with information regarding Brown’s whereabouts is urged to call the U.S. Marshals Service at 301-489-1717 or 800-336-0102.

Readers of The Washington Examiner have provided information that helped marshals capture at least 18 fugitives. Last week, a fugitive sex offender from North Carolina whom authorities believed to be hiding out in D.C. turned himself into authorities after seeing himself in The Examiner.

The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, run by the U.S. Marshals Service, is comprised of 30 federal, state and local agencies from Baltimore to Norfolk. The unit has captured more than 29,000 wanted fugitives since its creation in 2004.
