Woman gets 20 years for double-fatal DUI crash

A 32-year-old woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison for running over and killing two men on the side of the road. Jenny Mate, of Beltsville, was convicted of two counts of homicide by motor vehicle, vehicular manslaughter, and driving under the influence.

On Feb. 1, 2010, Mate was driving her Cadillac sport-utility vehicle and struck and killed Roy Lacayo, 34, of the District and Justo Rosario Jr., 30, of Hyattsville, according to Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office. The men were on Riggs Road in the Adelphi area exchanging insurance information after a fender bender. Mate was driving 60 mph, twice the speed limit, and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.15, nealy twice the legal limit in Maryland, authorities said.
