A man was shot just blocks from the U Street corridor and the Shaw-Howard Metro station on Tuesday afternoon, D.C. police said.
Police categorized the incident at the intersection of Ninth and T streets NW as an assault with intent to kill, although the man was conscious and breathing when transported to an area hospital, police said. The shooting occurred at 3:35 p.m., a police spokesman said.
Police are on the lookout for a black male with dreadlocks wearing a black shirt and jeans.
