Leslie Johnson seeks sentencing delay An attorney for former Prince George’s County Councilwoman Leslie Johnson has asked to delay her sentencing.

Johnson, who was scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 13, resigned in July after pleading guilty to conspiring to tamper with witnesses and evidence in an FBI investigation of pay-to-play schemes in Prince George’s County.

In a motion filed Monday, Johnson’s attorney, Shawn Wright, wrote that “scheduling conflicts” had come up and requested that the sentencing be postponed.

Prosecutors don’t oppose the delay, Wright wrote.

Johnson admitted to stuffing $79,600 in cash in her bra and underwear and flushing a $100,000 check down the toilet at the instruction of her husband, then-County Executive Jack Johnson.

Jack Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 6.

Charity founder, bank employee sentenced in fraud scheme

The founder of a D.C. charity and a Bank of America employee have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a fake-donations scheme.

Stephan Bekale, founder of the nonprofit Hoops for Africa, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. A bank worker, 38-year-old Jamal Ibraheem, received one year behind bars.

Court records say they defrauded the Bank of America Charitable Foundation out of $276,000. The foundation matches employees’ gifts to charities. Bekale and bank employees made, and recruited others to make, fake donations to Hoops for Africa to fraudulently get the matching funds.
