MontCo police charge man in post-office stabbing

Montgomery County police have charged a man in a stabbing in a Colesville post office.

Ray Alfred Young, 67, of Silver Spring, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and concealing a dangerous weapon.

Young allegedly stabbed and seriously injured another man in a Colesville post office Thursday after he believed his 58-year-old victim had cut in line at the counter, police said.

Young allegedly waited in a vestibule near the exit, and when the victim left the post office, Young attacked him, police said. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds in the attack, and police said that two female post office employees who pepper-sprayed Young and attempted to subdue him likely prevented the victim from suffering more serious injuries. Young fled the scene, police said, but police found him a mile away at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Route 29 and placed him under arrest.
