D.C. police make arrests in 3 slayings

 

D.C. police have made arrests in with three separate homicide cases. Police on Thursday arrested 21-year-old Arvel Crawford in the slayings of 61-year-old Nolan Cooper and 18-year-old JohnQuan Wright, who were found fatally shot on the unit block of K Street NW on Aug. 14, 2008. On Wednesday, 22-year-old Terry T. Johnson was charged in the Oct. 26 killing of Andre Wiggins. Wiggins, 19, was found shot just before noon on the 5200 block of Clay Street NE. He died at a hospital. Also Wednesday, 22-year-old Stephen D. Barnes was arrested in the Dec. 10 shooting death of 24-year-old Stephon Way. Way was slain on the 4500 block of Benning Road NE at about 4 a.m.

On Tuesday, police made arrests in three other unrelated homicide cases.

2 killed in Silver Spring crash

Two people were killed in an overnight crash in Silver Spring. The one-car crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday in the 600 block of University Boulevard East, said Officer Howard Hersh, a Montgomery County police spokesman. Police said 22-year-old Jenice Richards and 19-year-old Tamara Johnson, both of Hyattsville, were killed. Silver Spring resident 18-year-old Desaleen James was hurt, but survived. The vehicle left the road and was found in the front yard of a home, Hersh said. He said investigators are still determining why the car veered off the street and what the vehicle hit.

Police probe sex assault

A woman was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in the Petworth area, D.C. police said. Police said a man accosted the woman while she was walking on the 900 block of Emerson Street NW at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, forced her into a van at knifepoint, then drove to the 1200 block of Delafield Place and sexually assaulted her.
