identity theft scam

Scammers are sending out text messages in which they pose as the receiver’s bank and ask for personal information, Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler said Wednesday.

The messages ask the recipient to call a toll-free number to resolve a conflict with their account, he said. The number is often an automated message service that asks the victim to put in bank account numbers and other sensitive information.
