Stupid Crimes

Shoplift with a cop

An alleged shoplifter in Nebraska picked the wrong night to try to hit up Walmart.

More than two dozen sheriff’s deputies were in the Gretna, Neb., store to take underprivileged children to buy holiday items in a “Shop with a Cop” event when 49-year-old David Sherman tried to steal a DVD player, WOWT reports. The television station reports that some of the deputies saw Sherman running from the store with electronics in hand and caught up to him in the parking lot.

“I just feel real stupid,” Sherman told WOWT from jail.

Man shoots self to get painkillers

A Montana man requested painkillers from hospital staffers — but when just asking for the drugs didn’t work, he shot himself in the ankle to get some.

KTVQ reports that the 48-year-old Miles City man, whose name wasn’t disclosed, got upset after staffers didn’t hand over the pain medicine when he complained of back pain. He then got a handgun from his car and shot himself in an effort to obtain the painkillers.

Authorities say they’re deciding whether to charge the man with negligence and endangerment.

Don’t have a cow about it

Police in Hawaii processed an unusual weapon when responding to a Christmas Eve bar brawl: a cow femur.

Four men were injured in the alleged attack by 45-year-old Gregory Haas, according to the Associated Press. The bovine leg bone was recovered from the bar.

Haas “did indicate that he did actually find it in pastureland here in the Kona area,” Lt. Gerald Wike told the AP. “This is the first time that I have experienced an assault taking place with what appears to be an animal bone.”

Time for a new profile photo

An photo posted on Facebook led to mugshots for four Pennsylvania teenagers.

Police say the teens stole $9,000 in goods from a Pittsburgh-area market, then posted images of themselves with the candy, cigarettes and money on Facebook, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Authorities say 18-year-old Isaiah Cutler, a 17-year-old and two 14-year-olds were nabbed after a sister of one of the teens saw the photos on Cutler’s Facebook page and told her grandmother, who called police.
