Man arrested in stabbing at Montgomery County park

A District man was arrested for allegedly stabbing another man in a Montgomery County park Wednesday evening, police said.

Ronaldo Mathis, 33, will be charged with attempted first-degree murder and first degree assault, Montgomery County police said.

About 6 p.m. Wednesday, police went to Spencerville Local Park at 15701 Good Hope Road and found a 27-year-old man with two stab wounds in his chest area. Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks said the victim was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The Maryland National Capital Park Police canine tracked Mathis, police said, and he was apprehended in a creek bed.

Authorities said Mathis and the victim know each other.
