Explosive device found in Fairfax County townhouse

An explosive device was found in a Franconia-area home Monday evening, police said.

A cleaning crew found the device, described as an unusual-looking box with tape and wires, in a vacant and for-sale townhouse in the 6500 block of Gilder Street, Fairfax County Police said.

Police summoned the Explosive Ordnance Unit to the scene and the unit took the device out of the home and rendered it safe, police said.
