A Baltimore man was gunned down outside of a Glen Burnie bar after a skirmish with another man over the weekend, according to Anne Arundel police.
Nathaniel Benjamin Wallace, 37, known to his friends as “Stinker,” was fatally shot in a parking lot outside of Dietrich’s Tavern in the 7300 block of Furnace Branch Road shortly after midnight on Saturday, police said.
His death marked the first homicide in Anne Arundel this year. Police still are investigating three unsolved slayings out of the county’s 10 homicides in 2008.
Witnesses told police Wallace and another man were involved in a fight at the bar earlier that night, and both men were escorted by bouncers outside where they continued to argue.
Wallace was shot in the upper body several minutes later and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The suspect, who’s described as a tall man in his 20s or 30s with dreadlocks and last seen wearing a black puffy coat with dark pants, fled in a large sport utility vehicle, police said.
A Dietrich’s Tavern employee said Sunday he didn’t know what the men were fighting about when they were escorted outside. He said Saturday’s homicide was the first violent incident at the Tavern, but police reports indicate officers were called to the bar just last month when a man was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot.
Wallace’s family could not be reached for comment Sunday.
Court records indicate Wallace has moved between the Baltimore area and Anne Arundel County in the past decade. His most recent address could not be obtained.
Anyone with information about the suspect in Wallace’s killing is asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP or Anne Arundel police at 410-222-3463. Callers may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
