Police: Man made up story about
being thrown from five-story garage
Montgomery County police said a man who reported being robbed and thrown from a Wheaton parking garage made up the story. The 29-year-old man told police he was attacked at Westfield Wheaton shopping mall on Thursday afternoon and dragged to the fifth-floor garage and pushed over the edge. Someone who saw the man on the ground called police. Police now believe his injuries were self-inflicted.
Alleged robber arrested in bank parking lot
A 29-year-old Alexandria-area man was arrested in the parking lot of a bank he had allegedly robbed just minutes earlier. Police said Makele G. Habtom entered the BB&T Bank at 5203 Franconia Road and demanded money from the teller. The robber took it and fled. Officers responded to the area and found Habtom minutes later in the parking lot of the bank. He was carrying the money stolen from the bank, police said.
Mother gives birth at fire station
A Montgomery County woman gave birth at a Gaithersburg fire station when she realized she couldn’t reach the hospital in time. Erin and Christian Presley’s son wasn’t due until Monday, but Erin started feel to feel him arrive early Friday. She knew she had to push, so the couple pulled into the volunteer fire station parking lot around 3 a.m. No one answered the doorbell at first, so Christian called 911. Firefighter Michael Skidmore woke up and helped deliver the baby in the parking lot.
Man dies after police fire stun gun
Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was shot twice with a police stun gun. Baltimore County police said a pickup truck went off the road and into a sign on Interstate 795. When a state trooper arrived, police said the man in the truck, Carl D’Andre Johnson, became combative. He was shot a second time with the stun gun after the first time had no effect, police said.
