Prince George’s County Police have arrested Edwin Xavier Rivas, 24, in connection with a sexual assault that occurred in Mount Rainier in January. Rivas, of the 6100 block of 39th Place in Hyattsville, was arrested Saturday in Hyattsville without incident, police said.
Rivas has also been charged in a sexual assault being investigated by the Hyattsville Police Department, according to county police. County police said that detectives are looking into the possibility that he may be responsible for other sexual assaults.
The assault occured in the middle of the night on January 28. At approximately 2:30 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 3300 block of Buchannan Street where a woman reported that an unknown man approached her from behind as she was walking down the street. She said he was armed with a knife and sexually assaulted her then fled on foot.
