Chesser’s wife to plead to false-statements charge

The wife of a Bristow man who has admitted aiding a Somali terrorist group is scheduled to plead guilty to making a false statement to authorities about the case.Proscovia Kampire Nzabanita, the wife of Zachary Chesser, has a plea hearing scheduled for Monday in federal court in Alexandria, according to court records.

Chesser admitted in October that he encouraged attacks on the creators of the television show “South Park” for mocking the prophet Muhammad on their show. He also pleaded guilty to soliciting others to try to desensitize law enforcement by putting suspicious-looking, but harmless, packages in public places and trying to go to Somalia to join al-Shabaab as a fighter.

Authorities have not elaborated on the false statements Nzabanita is accused of making.
