Nursing home worker charged with neglect

Police in Frederick charged a nursing home worker with locking three blind and deaf adults in a car while he ate at a diner. The three were left in the hot sunlight while Brian Fleming, 47, ate inside the Mountain View Diner on Sunday. Paramedics treated the trio who appeared to be hot and in distress, police said. Fleming, 47, of Fairfield, Pa., with three counts of vulnerable adult neglect.



Mail thief gets two years in jail

A Hyattsville woman was sentenced to two years in prison for her role in a scheme to steal mail from U.S. Postal Service mailboxes. Neira Maradiaga-Menjivar, 23, pleaded guilty to using a master key to steal mail from USPS blue collection boxes around Langley Park and Hyattsvile. The investigation found that stolen checks were altered and cashed by two other conspirators. The ring stole mail from at least 260 victims.

Md. wins $9M judgment in securities fraud

Maryland won a $9.5 million judgment against an hedge fund operator, the state’s attorney general announced. More than 150 people, most in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, invested in the companies run by John Henry Williams, who later hid the money from investors, prosecutors said. Williams admitted to committing securities fraud in 2007. Restaurant card skimmer sentenced

The leader of a card-skimming conspiracy that stole more than $700,000 from customers of Washington restaurants was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison. Erick V. Burton, 38, of District Heights, was the last member of the conspiracy to be sentenced. Burton conspired to recruit and pay servers at Clyde’s, M&S Grill, and 701 Restaurant to “skim” the credit card numbers of paying customers. The servers were paid $20 per card number.
