Reward offered in blaze that injured firefighters

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information about a February arson that injured seven firefighters in Prince George’s County.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering the money for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever set the Feb. 24 fire at 6404 57th Ave. in Riverdale.

The fire at the vacant house was ruled an arson. Seven firefighters were hurt while trying to put out the fire. One firefighter was severely injured and was not released from the hospital until late April. While crews were battling the blaze, a sudden rush of air entered the house, creating a “fireball” that engulfed the firefighters, according to Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

Anyone who has information is asked to call 888-ATF-FIRE (283-3473).
