A ruptured water main snarled traffic in downtown Washington Monday morning.
The nearly 130-year-old 20-inch pipe burst as a contractor was pulling up a manhole as part of work for the 17th Street “Streetscape” project, authorities said.
The pipe spewed water onto 17th Street, causing it to be closed between 0 and Q streets for much of the day. The street was reopened just before the evening commute, officials said.
