A 28-year-old man disappeared from his home in Capitol Heights in August 2008. Later that day, an armed home invasion occurred at his residence.
Police and Anthony J. Nelson’s family wondered at the time whether the two were linked.
Two years later, Prince George’s County police say Nelson’s disappearance is still an active missing-person case.
Nelson was last seen when he left his home on the 6900 block of Aquamarine Court at about 6 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008, police said the following week. He was going to visit friends.
At about 11 that night, two gunman entered Nelson’s residence and restrained his mother, aunt and half-brother with duct tape.
The men searched the house and stole cash, a computer and electronics equipment.
Two weeks after Nelson went missing, police said they suspected that foul play might have been involved, though they had no specific evidence connecting the home invasion to his disappearance.
Nelson’s family, though, said they believed the assailants could be responsible for his disappearance. The family told police and the media that the attackers appeared to have used a key to open the door to the house.
Police said Nelson was last seen driving a gold 2004 Mercury sport utility vehicle, which was recovered during the week after Nelson went missing.
His disappearance was classified as a “critical missing person.” When an adult case is classified as such, police believe that the person is endangered or that foul play was involved.
Nelson is described as a black man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 250 pounds.
He has brown eyes and black hair.
