Probation officer sentenced for exporting guns to Nigeria A Maryland state probation officer was sentenced to three years in prison for illegally exporting guns to Nigeria. Emenike Charles Nwankwoala, 50, of Laurel, bought dozens of shotguns and pistols from around the Washington area and over the Internet and shipped them in containers to the African country. Nwankwoala told undercover officers that he had been sending guns overseas for 10 years.
Two of Sunday’s shooting victims die in hospital
Two of the six people who were shot in D.C. on Sunday have died, police said.
Police said Brian Curtis Scott, of Upper Marlboro, was shot at 13th Place and Congress Street SE around 7 a.m. Police announced his death Monday. At least two others were shot in the incident, police said.
Bryant Morillo, 16, of Hyattsville, and another victim were shot in the 4500 block of New Hampshire Avenue NW around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Morillo later died.
The deadly violence came the day new Mayor Vincent Gray took office and D.C. police announced 131 homicides for 2010, a 46-year-low for the city.
Passenger on D.C. flight arrested
A passenger aboard a plane heading to Washington was arrested after he allegedly refused to take his seat and passengers reported a suspicious bag in the overhead bin.
Police said Ognjen Milatovic, of Hudson, Mass., refused to hang up his cell phone and sit down. The US Airways flight was headed from Boston to Reagan National Airport on Monday morning.
Passengers also complained that his carry-on luggage was making strange noises. No threat was found.
Milatovic, a college professor, was charged with interfering with a flight crew and disorderly conduct. The flight departed an hour late.
