A convicted murderer who escaped from a Panama jail and was apprehended in D.C. was returned to Panama last week by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
Juan Alberto Barrera-Candelaria, 36, illegally entered the United States after escaping a Panama detention center in 2008, according to ICE.
He was arrested in D.C. in January after officials received an anonymous tip that he was planning to attack a Metro train. No evidence of a planned attack was found.
An immigration judge ordered Barrera-Candelaria to be deported in April. He is now in the custody of Panama law enforcement.
