Another UMd. student robbed
Prince George’s County police said a University of Maryland student was tackled and robbed of his wallet.
Police said the student was approached by four suspects about 2 a.m. Sunday on Hartwick Road near Princeton Avenue. One of the suspects tackled the student while another swiped his wallet.
The robbery follows several similar attacks, including an Aug. 27 robbery in which three students were assaulted and robbed in a hotel parking lot. On Aug. 29, three students were assaulted and robbed by five suspects at a bus stop.
Driver of armored truck
helps self to $600,000
A Brinks armored truck guard was charged with robbing the vehicle she was driving.
On Wednesday, Tyronda Ferrell drove her armored truck to a Wendy’s restaurant at 4052 Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave. in Northeast Washington. When the other guard got out of the back of the truck, he was robbed at gunpoint by two men, charging documents said. The robbers made off with $600,000. Under police questioning, Ferrell admitted that before the robbery an acquaintance had threatened to kill her if she did not help him rob the armored car. She admitted that she would receive some of the stolen money, police said.
Burglars target Chevy Chase
D.C. police are investigating a series of burglaries around the Chevy Chase neighborhood in Northwest Washington, and they are warning residents to keep their doors and windows locked.
Some of the burglaries were committed during the overnight hours in homes that were occupied, police said. On Sunday, burglars entered a residence in the 5400 block of 30th Street through a ground level window that had been left open by the owner.
