Crime History: Phone mistress

On this day, May 3, in 1984, an obese phone sex mistress who harassed a wealthy Beverly Hills family was killed by a hit man.

June Mincher, a flamboyant 245-pound prostitute who drove a lavender Rolls-Royce, became involved with Gregory Cavalli through an ad. When Cavalli met Mincher in person and realized she was not the woman in the photos, he rejected her. She responded by harassing Cavalli and his family, and was suspected in the firebombing of Cavalli’s car in 1983.

His family hired a firm that employed William Mentzer to protect them, and Mincher was killed a short time later. The investigation revealed that Mentzer was also was hired by an investor in the 1983 slaying of “Cotton Club” producer Roy Radin.

Mentzer was convicted of both murders and sentenced to life in prison.
