Six students charged in alleged gang rape Police have charged six Dunbar High School students with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl during school hours, officials said.

The suspects, all male juveniles, are now in police custody on first-degree sexual assault charges.

The female student told police she was attacked Monday afternoon in or near a stairwell inside the Northwest school building on the 1300 block of New Jersey Avenue. She said five of the suspects raped her while one boy held his hand over her mouth to keep her quiet, according to D.C. Metropolitan Police. The victim first reported the assault to a parent on Monday evening. She was taken to a hospital and authorities were called.

Md. couple get jail time

A Maryland couple were sentenced to jail for locking their dogs in a hot sport utility vehicle parked at a Salisbury mall over the summer.

Shannon Hussain, 36, and Kirt Greenberg, 45, were convicted on 18 counts of animal cruelty last week. Greenberg was sentenced to nine months in jail. Hussain was ordered to serve 90 days. Greenberg and Hussain were taken into custody in August after police freed six dogs locked in the couple’s Dodge Durango at the Centre at Salisbury.

An officer administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation to one of the dogs, but the dog did not survive.

Seniors hit by bicyclist

Two elderly pedestrians were hospitalized, one in critical condition, after being struck by a bicyclist in the south alley of the 600 block of Massachusetts Avenue NW.

D.C. police said the incident occurred at about 10 a.m. Friday, and the bicyclist took off after impact. He was described as a Hispanic male, with black hair, wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt, dark pants and possibly riding a BMX-style bicycle.
