Soccer coach charged with sexual abuse

A soccer coach from Takoma Park has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor, according to Montgomery County police.Police began investigating Real Maryland FC Soccer Club coach Roger M. Fernandez in September after a boy reported that he had been touched inappropriately in March at the club’s corporate offices in Silver Spring.

Fernandez, 38, was arrested Thursday and charged with sexual abuse of a minor plus one count of a fourth-degree sexual offense. His duties with Real Maryland involve coaching and traveling along the East Coast with several teams, the youngest for boys under 14.

Fernandez also is a volunteer with the Northwood High School soccer team.
