Man gets 14 months for Key Bridge fatality

A Germantown man was sentenced to 14 months behind bars in connection with the hit-and-run death of a 23-year-old pedestrian on the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

According to prosecutors, on the night of Feb. 27, 2011, Eliester Pineda-Medrano was riding on his moped from Georgetown to his Arlington home when the scooter stalled. As Pineda-Medrano tried to push-start it, he was struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by 41-year-old Anthony L. Randolph.

Pineda-Medrano went flying into the windshield, causing the SUV’s air bag to deploy. Randolph — who had been drinking at a bar — stopped momentarily, then sped off.

Twenty minutes later, he was apprehended on Interstate 270 in Maryland.
