An Oxon Hill man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in a 2010 slaying at a Centreville mansion.
Reynard Prather, 22, was sentenced Friday in federal court in Alexandria for his role in the May 2010 shooting death of Jose Cardona outside the residence where Cardona worked as a handyman.
Cardona was killed when he encountered Prather and another man near the home’s garage. The culprits had been planning to rob the mansion’s owner, who ran a check-cashing business, because they believed he kept his earnings at the home, according to court records. When Cardona was spotted, a struggle ensued, and the handyman was shot in the head.
The other man, Tasheik Champean, was indicted last month for his role in the killing.
Prather was indicted in November and pleaded guilty in February.
