Police make arrest in hotel room rape

Montgomery County police have arrested a 23-year-old Gaithersburg man on rape charges stemming from an October incident during which a maid said she was attacked in a Gaithersburg Motel 6 hotel room.

Luis Manuel Rivera was taken into custody Wednesday, two weeks after a detective spotted his car and its distinctive rims on Interstate 270, police said. The car had been spotted on surveillance cameras leaving the hotel after the attack. The detective wrote down the license plate and it was traced back to Rivera.

Police said DNA evidence was recovered at the scene.

The maid was cleaning a room at the hotel at 497 Quince Orchard Road when she heard the door slam behind her, police said. Before she could turn around, she told police, she was attacked and raped.
