The Greenwood Police Department confirmed that the victim was a sophomore at nearby Whiteland Community High School when an armed gunman fatally shot him at a bus stop along Winterwood Drive and Providence Drive Thursday morning. The gunman reportedly took off in a cornfield west of U.S. 31 following the shooting, triggering lockdowns across schools in the area.
“GPD is still actively investigating, but believe this was an isolated incident, and the victim was specifically targeted,” the police wrote in a Facebook post.

Whiteland High School, Greenwood Community High School, Greenwood Middle School, and Greenwood Christian Academy have been locked down. About an hour after the shooting, Greenwood High transitioned to a “lockout” situation, keeping all exterior doors locked and not allowing students outside the school. All schools within the shared Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation are not allowing visitors all day Thursday.

The suspect remains at large, with Indiana State Police utilizing a helicopter and drones to try and locate the suspect, who was last seen wearing a black hoodie.
