Customs and Border Protection helicopter crashes in Oklahoma City

A government helicopter that was being flown by two pilots from a federal border agency crashed in Oklahoma City on Wednesday afternoon, according to local and federal officials.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter went down near the 1700 block of North Cimarron Road in a fiery blaze that first responders struggled to contain.

A CBP spokeswoman told the Washington Examiner Wednesday evening that the pilots had been flying as part of a routine training exercise at the agency’s Air Training Center in Oklahoma City. The helicopter went down with the pilots inside, but both unnamed pilots survived after crashing in a field. Both pilots have since been released from a local hospital with minor injuries.

“Two pilots were in the helicopter as it went down. They were able to get out on their own after it hit the ground. The helicopter continued to burn down to its frame. Both patients were transported with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. 4:23 pm,” the local fire department said in a statement on Twitter.
