Delta to reinstate flight privileges for customers barred over mask violations

Delta Air Lines is restoring flight privileges to about 2,000 customers who previously did not comply with mask rules.

The airline announced Wednesday that barred customers will be allowed to fly once again on a case-by-case basis following a Florida federal judge’s decision on Monday to overturn the extended federal face mask mandate for planes and public transportation.

“Only after each case is reviewed and each customer demonstrates an understanding of their expected behavior when flying with us,” Delta told Reuters. “Any further disregard for the policies that keep us all safe will result in placement on Delta’s permanent no-fly list.”

The decision, however, does not affect Delta’s separate “permanent no-fly list,” comprising customers who committed “egregious behavior.”

‘PEOPLE ARE HAPPIER’: TRAVELERS REACT TO NO MASKS ON PLANES, BUT WHAT ABOUT CRUISES?

Delta previously encouraged the Justice Department and Attorney General Merrick Garland to place any person convicted of creating a disruption aboard a flight on a national “no fly” list.

United Airlines also announced Tuesday it would reinstate about 1,000 of its banned customers only “after ensuring their commitment to follow all crewmember instructions on board.”
