The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins announced that the popular biblical crowdfunded show about the life of Jesus Christ will release Season Four starting this weekend.
“I’m happy to tell you that Episode One of Season Four will launch this Sunday at 7 o’clock Eastern time,” Jenkins announced in a YouTube video for fans on Wednesday. “And as I’ve said, we will release two episodes per week.”
Season Four’s Episode One will stream online for free on The Chosen app and its social media accounts on Sunday, and the following episode will stream on Thursday, June 6 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern. Additional episodes will continue to be released on Sunday and Thursday nights for the next month.
The season was previously shown in theaters around the world starting in February, but after a long wait, it will now stream online. Jenkins shared the backstory about the delay in streaming the new season.
The director explained in the YouTube announcement that he had gratitude for the involvement of Angel Studios in helping launch the show, but he had had disagreements with Angel Studios over its contract and business arrangement. He explained how The Chosen and Angel Studios separated into two separate apps and recently worked through their disagreements with a private arbitrator.
“Both Angel and The Chosen want this show to reach over a billion people, and both of us want the show to be sustainable. We just obviously have significant differences of opinion on how to do that and what our future should be,” he explained.
Jenkins added, “Good people can disagree.”
“As of now, our contract with Angel Studios is terminated and the only place to watch Season Four is on our livestreams on our social media and The Chosen app or on DVD. Also, the only way to support The Chosen financially is by donating to Come and See or by purchasing gifts,” the director said.
Angel Studios CEO Neal Harmon said he hopes to one day reach an agreement to partner with The Chosen again.
“The team at Angel Studios is honored to have been instrumental in the founding and unbelievable growth of The Chosen. Our long hours of hard work over the last 8 years by teams of programmers, marketers, translators, licensing experts, and innovators have helped it become the worldwide success that it is today,” Harmon told the Washington Examiner in a statement. “Sadly, The Chosen, Inc. chose to terminate its agreement with us. We hope that one day the agreement will be restored—and we plan to pursue the appeal provision that Angel and The Chosen agreed to as the process for resolving disagreements privately.”
Jenkins thanked Angel Studios and particularly the studio executives Neal, Jordan, and Jeffrey Harmon, known as the Harmon Brothers, for their “extraordinary efforts in helping launch this show.”
Jenkins has been open about how The Chosen is a groundbreaking film project because it’s financial support is from viewers and does not have the financial comfort of Hollywood’s traditional big studio budgets.

He launched The Chosen series in 2017 after he was inspired to make a multiseries biblical drama while filming a short biblical film. His short film got the attention of innovative film executives who now run Angel Studios, and those executives correctly believed the series would be a massive hit.
The show has become one of the most-watched shows in the world with over 200 million viewers and consistently is a popular series on many streaming platforms including Amazon Prime, Peacock, and Netflix.
