Fox Nation releasing four-part documentary on David: King of Israel

Fox Nation will debut a documentary on the Biblical story of King David and his humble rise from shepherd boy to king of Israel on Feb. 26.

The four-part documentary, David: King of Israel, recounts the history of one of the Bible’s most famous leaders. It retells the events of the second half of 1 Samuel and the beginning of 2 Samuel, including David’s battle against Goliath, his escape and survival from King Saul, and his battle against the Amalekites.

The series also features commentary from multiple Biblical and historical experts, including Providence and Power author Rabbi Meir Soloveichik, Biblical archaeologist Scott Carroll, and Museum of the Bible founding scholar Jerry Pattengale.

“When David faced rejection, he went inward and upward, and when Saul faced rejection, he went outward. He lashed out, and David cried out,” Pattengale said in one of the episodes.

Chuck actor Zachary Levi hosts this documentary and provides commentary on David’s rise to power. Fox Nation President Lauren Petterson described Levi as “a natural fit for this series,” and said the actor’s connection to David’s story allows the epic to “come alive in a way that feels relevant to today’s viewers.”

“Aside from the account of Christ, the story of David is the most powerful in all of scripture,” Levi said. “In fact, one might argue that it’s even more powerful in some ways, given that David was fully human, and therefore flawed, like us, making his journey more relatable to our own.”

“It’s a story I’ve wanted to be a part of telling ever since I was a child, so it was such a blessing being a part of this production,” he said.

Levi, who also starred in 2019’s Shazam! and provided voice acting in Disney’s Tangled, was among the few celebrities to endorse then-presidential candidate Donald Trump a few weeks before the 2024 election. The actor previously backed then-independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr.’s bid for presidency and cited Kennedy’s endorsement as well as Tulsi Gabbard’s support for Trump for his decision.

David: King of Israel will premiere on Fox Nation at 5 a.m. on Feb. 26, with new 45-minute episodes airing weekly.

The documentary series will be released a few months after Angel Studios released the animated film DAVID last year. The film opened to the studio’s best debut of $22 million on Dec. 19 and went on to gross $83 million globally.
