Kai Trump is receiving scrutiny over her latest YouTube video, in which she visits Erewhon, a high-end grocery store.
President Donald Trump’s granddaughter began her YouTube channel in October 2024 and has 1.45 million subscribers. Her newest video shows her visiting Erewhon, “the most expensive grocery store pretty much out there” in Los Angeles, where she spends $233 “for one grocery bag.”
Some of the items Kai Trump purchases in the video include a $20 sushi plate, a $10 lemonade drink, a $21 smoothie, a $13 bottle of water, and a $44 protein shaker bottle. She jokes in the video that she will need to “file for bankruptcy” for the grocery store trip.
“That Kai Trump YouTube video is one of the most embarrassing self-owns I have ever seen,” Democratic strategist Mike Nellis said on X. “Her grandfather is crushing the economy and launching illegal wars, and she’s bragging about taking her Secret Service to an expensive grocery store. Just a modern-day ‘let them eat cake’ moment.”
“DRAFT KAI TRUMP,” fellow YouTuber Keith Edwards said on X.
“While her grandfather is sending troops her age to die in an illegal war, Kai Trump is out with Secret Service in tow on a high-end shopping spree,” a user on X said. “This is obscene, outrageous, and utterly wrong.”
Kai Trump ends her video by asking viewers to like and subscribe, saying, “I need to make back my money somehow.”

Donald Trump Jr.’s daughter has used her channel to show the different sides of her grandfather, posting an hourlong video of her playing golf with the president. Outside her YouTube channel, she made her Ladies Professional Golf Association debut in November 2025.
Kai Trump entered the public eye when she spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention. She has not addressed the current political atmosphere much since then, but did say in January on the Impaulsive podcast that people would be “happier” if Republicans and Democrats “met in the middle.”
