French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Italian Premier Mario Draghi traveled by train together on their way to Kyiv, where they will be joined by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.

“It is an important moment,” Macron said after arriving in Kyiv, according to the Associated Press. “It is a message of European unity toward Ukrainians.”
The French president said the European leaders will talk with Ukrainian officials about “both the present and the future” and visit sites where attacks occurred.
Scholz told reporters upon disembarking the train that the leaders will show their commitment to continuing to support Ukraine financially and militarily by supplying weapons “for as long as is necessary for Ukraine’s fight for independence.”
The leaders are expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has pleaded with Western nations for weapons and military equipment since Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion. The country is on the verge of losing the last major city held by Ukraine in the northern part of the Donbas region.
On Tuesday, Zelensky said that without a sharp increase in the flow of Western weapons to Ukraine, the war risks reaching a stalemate.
“Everyone will stand still. There will be a move of one or another side 1 to 5 kilometers forward, and then 1 to 5 kilometers back. If we get more weapons requested from our partners, we will start moving forward,” Zelensky said.
“It must come faster if we all live by the same goal,” he added. “We have shown our strength, and now it is very important that our Western partners show this strength together with us.”
The United States and Germany both announced more military aid for Ukraine on Wednesday.
President Joe Biden said the U.S. will send an additional $1 billion in military aid that includes anti-ship missile launchers, howitzers, and more rounds for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems.

Germany is sending Ukraine three multiple launch rocket systems and three medium-range artillery rocket systems, along with ammunition.
The visit comes ahead of a decision on Ukraine’s bid for membership in the European Union that will be made by leaders next week and a NATO summit in Madrid on June 29-30.
