Two dead and four officers hospitalized after argument over dog ends in shooting

Two were killed and four Birmingham, Alabama, police officers were hospitalized following a shooting at an apartment building Sunday that stemmed from an argument over a dog, police said.

Birmingham Police Sgt. Rod Mauldin said at a press conference that officers responded to a call at around 6:30 a.m. about a man and a woman who were shot at the 1000 block of Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard. The man was found unresponsive on the sidewalk and pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken to a nearby medical facility, where she was later pronounced dead.

Mauldin said the cause of the shooting was an altercation with another male individual over a dog. Authorities said the suspect responsible for the shooting was a white male wearing a red shirt and overalls.
