A digitally recreated image depicting the United States’s first President George Washington as a modern-day politician has gone viral.
George Hardy, a musician and Reddit user, created the picture after being bored during the pandemic in England, he said.
The 23-year-old, who was tired of “looking at the same four walls,” took an image of Texas Rep. Roger Williams and combined it with pictures of Glenn Close and Michael Douglas, two celebrities said to resemble Washington, he told the New York Times.

His creation, which took him about three hours, received 231,000 upvotes on Reddit.
Experts who study the Revolutionary War hero, however, said the image might not be accurate.
Alexis Coe, a historian and Washington biographer, said his shoulders appear too narrow, and his hair would likely be more extravagant as she noted that the former U.S. president valued his appearance.
Washington would likely have selected a more expensive-looking suit and tie choice, she added.
“He was quite fancy,” she said. “I don’t think he would look as slick as Mitt Romney, but you would be able to recognize that it was well-tailored. If he couldn’t wear Prada, he would probably have it custom made.”

Hardy’s interpretation of Washington’s tight-lipped smile was spot-on as he had dentures, fashioned from ivory and slaves’ teeth, and he would rarely smile with his pearly whites exposed, Coe noted.
Hardy’s attempt to recreate the former president was not the first. Magdalene Visaggio, a comic book writer, tried in late January by using a face swap application.
