Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) defended FBI Director Kash Patel’s reported decision to provide his girlfriend, Alexis Wilkins, with an FBI security detail.
Swalwell responded on Monday to a report from MS NOW, formerly MSNBC, dismissing backlash that Patel has received for protecting Wilkins, 27.
“I don’t want anything to happen to @FBIDirectorKash or his girlfriend. Protect her if she’s threatened,” Swalwell wrote on X. “It’s just F’d up that he REFUSES to protect me and my kids from MULTIPLE specific death threats. Same for other Dem colleagues. Can only conclude he wants us dead.”
Swallwell’s remarks come months after President Donald Trump revoked Secret Service details for former Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Joe Biden’s children Hunter and Ashley Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci, former national security adviser John Bolton, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and others.
Some people have condemned Patel’s move.
“Corruption is a feature. Kash Patel’s girlfriend being protected by FBI SWAT agents as security perk,” former Republican Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger wrote on X, quoting MS NOW’s headline.
“People familiar with FBI security protocols said they were unaware of any instance in which the girlfriends of top FBI officials received government-staffed security details,” Republicans Against Trump wrote on X.
Patel spoke about Wilkins being the target of “disgustingly baseless attacks” on Nov. 2.
“The disgustingly baseless attacks against Alexis — a true patriot and the woman I’m proud to call my partner in life — are beyond pathetic,” Patel wrote on X at the time. “She is a rock-solid conservative and a country music sensation who has done more for this nation than most will in ten lifetimes.”

“Attacking her isn’t just wrong — it’s cowardly and jeopardizes our safety. My love of family will always be my cornerstone, and you will never tear that down or keep me from them,” Patel added.
The Washington Examiner contacted the FBI for comment.
