Hamas, the militant group in Gaza, retaliated following the clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians with rocket fire into Israel.
Israel rocket sirens went off on Monday evening local time after more than 300 Palestinians were injured during fighting at the Al Aqsa Mosque, according to the Associated Press. No injuries or damage from the rockets have been reported.
Abu Obeida, the spokesman for Hamas’s military wing, said the rocket attack was a response to what he characterized as Israel’s “crimes and aggression” in Jerusalem, saying, “This is a message the enemy has to understand well.”
Obeida threatened more attacks if Israel again invades the Al Aqsa Mosque or goes through with the planned evictions of Palestinian families in a neighborhood of east Jerusalem.

Israel‘s planned evictions of several Palestinian families living in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of east Jerusalem have been the impetus for the latest conflict between the two groups.
Monday’s fighting at the Al Aqsa Mosque left more than 305 Palestinians injured, with 228 requiring hospitalization, the Palestinian Red Crescent said. Seven of those people were listed as being in serious condition. Twenty-one Israeli officers were hurt, and three needed to be hospitalized.
