A top House Republican investigator says evidence shows now-President Joe Biden was lying when he said he had nothing to do with Hunter Biden’s business dealings, which the GOP says spanned over 50 prospective countries.
Rep. James Comer (R-KY), who will wield the gavel as chairman of House Oversight in the new Congress starting in 2023, made the revelations on Thursday during a press conference previewing Republican investigations next year.
“This evidence raises troubling questions about whether President Biden is a national security risk. And about whether he is compromised by foreign governments. Despite the president’s claim that he wasn’t involved in Biden family business schemes, these photos show Joe Biden meeting with his family’s business associates while vice president,” Comer said. “Committee Republicans have identified over 50 countries the Biden family sought business in. On the international side of the Biden family business, the deals were often led by Hunter Biden.”
DIRTY MONEY, DIRTY POLITICS, AND HUNTER BIDEN
Hunter controversially held a lucrative position on the board of Ukrainian energy giant Burisma while his father was vice president. He also pursued business deals in China and elsewhere during and after his father’s tenure, raking in millions thanks to these associations.
“In 2019, shortly after announcing his campaign for president, Joe Biden told the American people he had nothing to do with and never had conversations with his family about their business deals,” Comer said Thursday. “That was a lie.”
Comer argued Thursday that whistleblowers describe Joe Biden as “chairman of the board” for Hunter Biden-linked businesses, and the congressman said the president “personally participated in meetings and phone calls.” The GOP investigator noted that documents show the now-president was listed as a “partner” with access to a Hunter Biden business office, and he said it is clear that Joe Biden was the “Big Guy” listed in internal business discussions among Hunter Biden and his associates.
Joe Biden has frequently maintained that he has “never” spoken with Hunter about his overseas business dealings, but he had reassured Hunter Biden in a voicemail that he was in the “clear” following the release of a New York Times article covering his dealings with the now-defunct Chinese energy conglomerate CEFC.
Hunter Biden also told the New Yorker in 2019 that he spoke with his father about his position on the Burisma board just once, saying his father told him, “I hope you know what you are doing.” Hunter Biden says he replied, “I do.”
Joe Biden claimed during the October 2020 debate with former President Donald Trump that “my son has not made money” in China, but Hunter Biden and James Biden (Hunter’s uncle and Joe’s brother) received millions of dollars from Chinese businessmen.
“As part of our investigation, we have evidence that the finances, credit cards, and bank accounts of Hunter and Joe Biden were commingled if not shared,” Comer said Thursday. “And on some accounts at least, red flags were raised by banks to the account owner or owners indicating suspicious or illegal activity.”

Comer’s speech was followed by the release of a 31-page interim report titled “A President Compromised: The Biden Family Investigation.”
“President Joe Biden has participated in his family’s global business ventures with America’s adversaries. He has misused his public positions to further his family’s financial interests,” the GOP report alleges. “These actions have created the potential for President Biden to be susceptible to influence, blackmail, or extortion by a malign or foreign entity, including the Chinese Communist Party.”
The Republican report assessed: “A review of Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop, as well as information from whistleblowers, reveals a decade-long pattern of influence peddling, national security risks, and political cover-ups. Biden family members used their connections with Joe Biden to enrich themselves through the expectation of access to Joe Biden and promises about what a future Biden Administration might do for them.”
Last month, Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson shared more than 200 pages of investigative materials with the prosecutor running the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden. The evidence described details related to his overseas business dealings in China, Ukraine, and elsewhere.
